Health, Safety & Environment Manager

We are currently looking for a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as HSE Manager. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and great work ethic. 

 Key Responsibility:

The Health, Safety & Environment Manager is responsible for the overall promotion, administration, maintenance of the Health, Safety and Environment Program of Moore’s Industrial Service Ltd.  The HSE Manager ensures that Management, Supervisor, Foremen and employees follow their responsibilities as a team to meet or exceed established safety goals and objectives by the company.  They are to set a good example by following the rules and policies, while ensuring compliance of such company wide. The HSE Manager also ensures the Health, Safety & Environment program continues to challenge and move in an industry forward direction.

Health & Safety Role:

  • Conduct new employee HSE orientations; reviews all necessary HSE documentation with employee and ensures documentation is completed accurately for assigned departments
  • Manage & lead HSE Coordinator
  • Assign fit tester to required department employees for respirator fit testing
  • Conduct various emergency drills
  • Involved in HSE related employee disciplinary actions and issues as required
  • Maintain current knowledge of safety literature and safety legislation
  • Act as an advisor to all levels of management
  • Leader for the Joint Health & Safety Committee and it’s representatives
  • Liaise with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, Worker’s Compensation Board, industry and safety associations
  • Develop and maintain a safety equipment program
  • Design or assist with safety seminars or training
  • Maintain company safety statistics and communicate this information to all levels of management and the Safety Committee
  • Maintain safety bulletins, safety posters and company safety rules and regulations
  • Monthly internal and annual external fire extinguisher inspections
  • Annual external work exposure assessments
  • Lead in workplace incident investigations, analysis and assist in preparation of incident reports and summaries
  • Ensure that safety inspection reports on equipment are completed and correct
  • Management of the WCB Claims Management program and Modified Work program
  • Identify, assess, record, and communicate hazards in the workplace
  • Instruct employees on proper and safe product handling techniques to prevent strain or injury
  • Ensure that corrective action has been taken wherever safety deficiencies are identified
  • Achieve and maintain COR certification

Environment Role:

  • Provides compliance support and direction to all levels of Management
  • In conjunction with the company’s maintenance department, ensure proper removal and reporting of generated chemical wastes
  • Track current laws and regulations that might affect Moore’s Industrial Service Ltd. chemical policies and practices
  • Ensuring employee health and well-being
  • Ensure stack testing reports are completed in a timely manner for Environment Canada
  • Plans, implements and conducts programs to train managers in compliance requirement, practices and procedures to include techniques for handling hazardous materials, chemicals and toxins
  • Assess and audits facilities to detect existing or potential violations of environmental regulations or health hazards, determines preventive measures as indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented
  • Liaise with provincial and federal regulatory agencies
  • Liaise with Alberta Environment


  • Knowledge of developing, implementing and management of Health, Safety and Environment Programs
  • Proficiency in the use of the company’s computer and data systems
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently in a fast paced, ever changing industry
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction in a professional and diplomatic manner
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in management and/or leadership roles
  • Training in: First Aid, WHMIS, Accident Investigation, Effective Disability Management, Hazard Assessment, Leadership for Safety Excellence
  • Valid driver’s licence (minimum Class 5)
